Magul Maha Viharaya is located by the Lahugla National Sanctuary in the Ampara District. Even Though most people believe that Princes Vihara Maha Devi ( mother of king Dutugemunu ) reach Kirinda, there are many evidence that real place is Muhudu Maha Viharaya in Potuvil. Later, the wedding of her with king Kavanthissa was held in the Magul Maha Vihara Premises. “Magul” is the word in native Shinhala language for “wedding”. There is a remaining of the structure in this Temple premises known as “Magul Maduwa”.

Directions:
If you are coming from Siyabalanduwa, drive along the A4 road via Lahuga to Potuvil. You need to take a subway to your Right hand side and follow the sign boad. If you are coming via Potthuvil , You need to travel to west via A4 road via Lahugala To Siyabalaanduwa side.

Magul maha Vihara complex extents towards large area and you can see many historical constructions belonging to 2nd century BC. At the entrance you can see large ponds constructed for the usage of monastery monks.

One of the remarkable monument in this complex is Sadakada pahana ( Moon Stone) with a special feature. In this one the mahout also carved with the elephant, which is unique to this place.
