Rambakan Oya Old Construction


Rambakan Oya new irrigation project was declared open in July 2013. Even though this project became success only in recently, there were one or more previous attempts to construct an irrigation tank during the ancient times.

Irrigation authorities has identified several artifacts during the construction of the new project.

The first one is the 370 feet long, water way made out of rock slabs. This is believed to be made for the Sorowwa ( Sluice gate) of the tank.

These slabs are inter connected with each other with the a amazing self-interlocking mechanism.

The Second one is the 4000 feet long, tank dam with 360 feet base width, 34 feet surface width. It is 60 feet in height.
