If you are traveling through Haputhale during your holiday trip, Adisham monastery is an attraction not to missed. Adisham is an old day colonial British bungalow, later converted to a monastery and run and maintain by Benedictine Monks.
Adisham St.Benedict’s Monastery occupies a extent of 12 acres of land and the bungalow consist of forty rooms. Visitors can enjoy a scenic beauty around the monastery garden with lovely flower beds. Verities of Orchids and Roses are planted on this garden. The monastery authorities are maintaining a orchards in their garden and it produces many types of fruits.
The upperside of the monastery is a forest and a bird sanctuary.

Location & Directions to Adisham Bungalow:
Adism Bungalow can be reach from 4 km from the Haputhale town. Take temple road from the town . You can take three wheeler from temple road, towards the monastery or ride your own vehicle to reach there. Walking also good option.



History of Adisham Bungalow :
Adhism bungalow was built by a English planter Sir Thomas Lister Villiers. He came to Sri Lanka as young man in year 1827 via ship which is used for tea transporation.

Sir Thomas worked for George Stuarts tea industry from 1928-1948. Construction of this bungalow started in year 1927 and completed in year 1931. After retirement of the Sir Thomas, ownership change to Sedawatte mills in year 1951. Conversion of this bungalow to a monastery was as a result of purchasing this by Romand Catholic Church in year 1961.

Opening Hours:
Please note that this monastery is open only on weekends, public holidays and school holidays.

Adisham Store:
If you visited there, don't forget to buy some organic products made in Adisham . The Fruits collected from the monastery orchard are used to manufacture them. They have jams, chutneys and cordials. The income generated with selling these product is used to maintain this monastery in order.
