The prison cell of the last king of Sri Lanka, is one of the unnoticed historic monument located at the heart of Colombo. Many of you have passed this location, without noticing the historic value of this small structure, which is currently in middle of the car park in Colombo Ceylinco Headquarters premises.

prison cell of King Sri Wickrama Rajashinghe

King Sri Wickrama Rajashinghe rules in Kandyen kingdom from year 1798 to 1815. After his capture in 1815 February 19th, he was taken to Colombo and kept temporary in this cell until deporting to India. Later he was kept in Vellore in Madras as a prisoner of war until his death in 30th January 1832.

Inside the cell, you can see portraits of king, his queen and the flag of the Kandian kingdom. Outside the cell, you can see the stature of the king.
