Seethawaka wet zone botanical garden is located in Illukovita village, close to Avissawella. The easiest route to reach this garden is taking the turn from Puwakpitiya station. When you are driving from Colombo to Avisswella via high level, you will find the Puwakpitiya station at your left hand side. Turn right from the next junction, take the “Puwakpitiya-Thummodara” road and travel nearly 3 km, then you can find the garden by your right hand side.

Seethawaka park is open all the days throughout the year and opening hours are from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. You can contact the park authorities via phone number 036-379-5295.

The project of constructing Seethawaka wet Zone park was initiated in year 2008. Currently this park occupies the land area of 106 acres. If you are expecting a park like Paradaniya or Haggala with variety of flowers, Seethawaka is not like that. Even though they have some area dedicated for flowers, this park is mostly about trees. The rationale behind the launch of this park is to establish a center to conserve the highly threatened wet lowland forest flora for future generations.

In this park, you can see and study many lesser know trees and pants belong to the wet zone of Sri Lanka.

Kids may like to have a boat ride

You need to purchase a tickets with a small fee to enter to the park. Ample parking and hygiene facilities are provided at the entrance. Visitors can have a boat ride at the man make lake build using the natural water flow from the nearby hills. Tickets for this swan boats can be purchased from entrance. Visitors can see many Kumbuk trees planted close to the water stream.

Nicely paved path directs you to the summit of the park. Most of the trees and pants are marked with a name tag, so you can identify each of them.
