Weragala Purana Gallen Rajamaha Viharaya, Arukwatta, Padukka

Padukka Arukwattha, Vearagal Purana Gallen Rajamaha Viharaya is located in Padukka - Bope, Ingiriya main road. This is around 5km away from the Padukka junction,and you can see the name board by your right hand side.

This temple was build in a middle of the 14 acre of a forest and between two large rocks. Histrical construction and new additions as well can be seen in this temple.

Once you enter the temple premises, you can notice that more prominent place given to the nature and constructions were done with the minimum disturbance to the surrounding forest. There are large verity of trees, which are not commonly seen nowadays are there in the temple garden.

Once you climb around 50 steps up, you can reach the area, where the Boo tree is located and the cave temple is few feet above.

The main shrine room is located in a cave and there are two Buddha statues in. This is believed to build by king Walagamba, the statues are renovated after Kandy kingdom time.

A small Vishnu Devale is located in front of the cave and the Deva statue was belonging to the historical era.

Once you pass the cave temple, you can climb the to the top of the rock and see new addition done in recent past. This includes a "Siripa Mandiraya", where a replica of the sripadaya is located. Villages call this place "Punchi Siripadaya".

A Samadhi Buddha statue was established recently in rock call "Maha Gala" and some call it "Budun Wediya Maha Gala"
