Viharamaha Devi Park, Colombo

Viharamaha Devi Park ( formally known as Victoria Park) is the largest among the Colombo parks. This is located in the heart of the city, just front of the Colombo Town hall.

During the British Colonial time, Colombo is considered as a green city with many lakes and parks were constructed around the city. This park was constructed during the time of British ruling and given the name “Victoria”, to tribute the Queen Victoria. Later in 1950s, this park was rename as Viharamahevi, who was the mother of king Dutugemnu.

During the recent past, this park was in dilapidated state.Government has renovated it recently, due to the CHOGM 2013. Apart from the renovations were done, lots of new facilities added. Kids has many more things to do here and place for a family to spend their evening in relaxing mood.

Viharamahadevi park is now open throughout the day and night. Jogging track was established around the Park and many people visit there in the evening for exercises.
