Tissa wewa is the main water sources for the paddy cultivation in Thissmaharama and suburbs area. When you are traveling to Katharagama, you can easily spot this tank, because the main road (B464 ) goes over the Tank bund.
There is no exact record about the creator of Thissa lake, but it’s believed that king Mahanaga or his son king Yatala Thissa created this during the 3rd century.
Pilgrims, who are visiting the area, used to come to this place for bathing. The pavement is layered with bricks, so you can walk along the bunt. This is a very good place to relax in the evening. There are several hotels are located around this lake.
